Office Lighting and Electrical Work Planned Around Your Layout

Serving businesses across Los Angeles, CA.

Office lighting works when light lands where people work: on desks, whiteboards and faces on a video call, never as glare on a screen. We plan the fixtures, the controls and the circuits together, so the ceiling, the walls and the panel follow one drawing.

A 1970s high-rise floor often still runs fluorescent troffers on aging ballasts. A mid-century low-rise may have a panel with no open spaces left for new workstations.

We find both at the walkthrough and price the fix before you commit.

LED Retrofits, Lighting Design and Commercial Electrical

Book one scope or all three. The same project manager runs the fixtures, the controls and the power.

A commercial lighting retrofit swaps fluorescent troffers for LED, with new fixtures or retrofit kits that fit the housings already in your ceiling. You get lower power bills, no flickering tubes and far fewer lamp changes.

A retrofit counts as a lighting alteration, so controls can come with it (see the Title 24 section below).

Conference room with a linear pendant over the table and recessed downlights washing a plain wall

A new floor plan needs a new lighting plan. We space fixtures for even light on desks, hang pendants over conference tables and wash corridor walls so halls don’t read as dim.

Lenses get picked to keep glare off screens, and you see the layout before anything’s ordered.

Open electrical panel with neat new breakers and labeled circuits in an office building electrical room

Every new desk, copier and break room appliance needs a circuit that can carry it. Our electricians add circuits, floor boxes and power poles, and they upgrade the panel when the load calculation says it’s full.

Breaker shutdowns happen at night or on weekends, booked with your building engineer.

How it works

How We Plan and Install Office Lighting and Power

Four steps take you from a walkthrough to lights that pass inspection. Nothing gets ordered until the controls and circuits are settled.

01

Count and check

We count fixtures, read your panel schedule, look above the ceiling and note which rooms sit along windows.

02

Layout and controls

We draw the fixture layout, the controls and any new circuits, then file with LADBS where your scope needs a permit.

03

Rough-in after hours

Electricians pull wire, set boxes and sensors and core floor boxes while your office is closed. Rough inspection follows.

04

Test and hand over

Fixtures go up and controls get programmed and tested. You receive a labeled panel schedule and the control settings in writing.

When a Commercial Lighting Retrofit Triggers Title 24 Controls

California’s Title 24 energy code covers lighting in office alterations, and replacing enough fixtures brings in lighting control requirements. Depending on the space, those can include occupancy sensing, multi-level dimming, daylight zones and automatic shutoff after hours.

Whether your fixture count crosses the trigger, which controls apply and whether acceptance testing is needed, we confirm with LADBS for your scope. You see the answer on your estimate, not as a plan check correction.

Layers and controls

Office Lighting Layers and Controls, Explained Tab by Tab

Each tab is one layer or control your suite may need. Pick one to see what it does and where it goes.

Occupancy and Vacancy Sensors

Sensors turn lights off when a room empties. An occupancy sensor switches lights on and off for you, while a vacancy sensor waits for you to switch them on and shuts them off after you leave.

Open office where the light fixtures along the windows are dimmed while inner rows stay brighter

Daylight Zones

Fixtures near windows dim on their own when the sun’s strong. A photosensor reads the light in the zone and lowers the row closest to the glass first.

Task Lighting

Task lighting puts focused light on the desk, so the ceiling layer can run softer. Under-shelf LEDs and desk lamps suit anyone who reads paper all day.

Circuits and Power

Each new room or desk cluster adds load to your panel. We run the load calculation, add dedicated circuits where equipment needs them and route power through walls, floor boxes or power poles.

Bundled data cables running in J-hooks above an open office ceiling grid before the tiles go back

Data and Low-Voltage Cabling

Data cable runs above the ceiling to every desk, printer and wireless access point. Where the ceiling space returns air, the cable has to be plenum-rated.

Exit Signs and Emergency Lights

Moving walls changes the way out. Exit signs and emergency lights may need to move or be added so the route to each exit stays lit, and plan check reviews it. We confirm what your layout needs with LADBS.

Fixture types

Office Light Fixtures Compared, Room by Room

Choose fixtures by the room and the ceiling you have. Most suites mix three or four of these.

Open offices and general work areas

Glare if the lens is too bright

Lay-in grid

Troffer retrofit kit

Fast retrofits that keep the old housings

Rusted or damaged housings rule it out

Existing grid troffers

Linear pendant

Open ceilings and long desk runs

Open or high ceilings

Recessed downlight

Corridors, reception and restrooms

Too few leave dark gaps on the walls

Drywall or grid

Track and accent lights

Art walls, displays and reception

Glare if aimed toward seating

Any, on a surface track

Color temperature

Most offices land at a neutral white, around 3500K to 4000K. Warmer light suits reception and lounges, and every fixture in one room should match.

Glare control

Low-glare lenses and indirect pendants keep bright spots off monitors. We place fixtures by how desks face, not just by the grid.

Acceptance testing

Some lighting control installs need acceptance tests by a certified technician before final inspection. We schedule them when your scope calls for it.

Fixture lead times

Specialty pendants and linear runs often ship weeks after the order, so we place it as soon as your layout’s approved.

Questions

Office Lighting and Electrical Questions From LA Businesses

Short answers on LED retrofits, controls, permits, panels and working after hours.

Have a lighting question?

Call for a straight answer on fixtures, controls or power.

Even LED ambient light at a neutral white, with low-glare lenses and task lights at the desks, suits most offices. Add dimming in conference rooms and daylight controls near windows. The fixture table above shows what fits each room.

Usually, yes, when you add circuits, move fixtures or change controls, because that’s electrical work LADBS permits. Swapping like-for-like lamps usually isn’t. Larger scopes add plan check and Title 24 forms, and we confirm with LADBS for your scope.

Most suites take about 1–4 weeks on site, set by fixture count, controls and any panel work. Kit retrofits move fastest because the housings stay. Permits and long-lead fixtures come first, and your schedule goes in the contract.

For most offices, yes. LED fixtures use less power, run cooler and last far longer than fluorescent tubes, so lamp changes and ballast failures mostly stop. Savings depend on your hours and fixture count, so we don’t promise a number.

If your project changes enough fixtures, Title 24 calls for automatic shutoff, and occupancy or vacancy sensors are the usual way to meet it. Private offices and restrooms get them most often. We confirm with LADBS for your scope.

Yes. We run most wiring by day inside closed-off zones and save breaker shutdowns for nights or weekends, booked with your building engineer. Servers and refrigerators stay powered unless we’ve planned the switchover with you.

Yes. We pull cable to each desk, printer and access point, or set the pathways and boxes for your IT vendor’s crew to cable. The Data tab above covers how it’s routed.

Yes, for any wiring in a commercial space. Panels, circuits and lighting controls are permitted work done by qualified electricians and inspected by LADBS in the City of Los Angeles. Our electricians handle the lighting and power under the same contract as the rest of your remodel.
