Drywall Contractor in Los Angeles
Drywall repair and installation from Los Angeles Home Remodelers fixes holes, cracks and water damage and hangs new walls and ceilings, finished smooth or textured to match. We’re an interior remodeling contractor serving homes across Los Angeles, CA.
One project manager runs it: we find the cause, cut out damaged board, hang, tape and mud, then match orange peel, knockdown or a smooth finish. Most repairs take two or three short visits over a few days, since each coat of joint compound has to dry, and new walls get a permit where the scope needs one. Your free in-home visit ends with a written, itemized estimate.

Drywall repair, Los Angeles
Serving homes across Los Angeles, CA.
Drywall repair is done right when you can’t find the patch once it’s painted. That takes solid backing, taped seams, three thin coats of joint compound and a texture that matches the wall around it.
LA homes give us every kind of wall. A 1980s tract house usually has orange peel or knockdown, a mid-century ranch may be smooth, and a 1920s Craftsman has plaster and lath that needs its own repair.
We find the cause first. A ceiling stain means a leak above, and a crack that keeps coming back means something’s still moving.
Drywall services
Patch it, hang it new or save the plaster. Each job ends primed and ready for paint.
Doorknob holes, nail pops, cracked corners, dented corner bead and torn paper all get fixed, so the wall reads as one surface again. Small holes take a patch, and bigger ones get a new piece of board screwed to backing.
We match the texture and prime the repair, and our painters can finish the wall the same week.
New drywall goes up for new walls, soffits, ceilings and rooms opened during a remodel. We hang the board, tape the seams and finish them smooth or to the texture you pick.
Where the code calls for a specific board, like the wall or ceiling between an attached garage and the house, we hang what it specifies.
Plaster-and-lath walls in older LA homes crack, bulge and lose their grip on the lath. We re-secure loose plaster, bridge cracks with mesh and setting compound, then skim the area so it blends.
When a plaster ceiling is too far gone, we can cover it with new board instead of tearing it out.
How it works
Four steps, with drying time between coats. Rushing the mud is how patches show through paint.
We trace stains to the leak, check cracks for movement and test popcorn or old texture before anyone scrapes it.
Damaged board comes out to solid framing. We add backing where it’s needed and screw in a new piece cut to fit.
Seams get paper or mesh tape and three thin coats of joint compound, each dried and sanded before the next.
We match the texture, prime the repair and either paint it or leave it ready for your painter.
Drywall work
From a doorknob hole to a ceiling that has to come down, each job gets its own method.
Small holes fill with compound, and fist-size holes get a patch on backing so the repair won’t crack. Nail pops get reset with screws, not just covered.
Wet drywall loses strength and can grow mold behind the paint. Once the leak’s fixed, we cut out the damaged board past the stain, let the framing dry and check it before we close up.
A new wall splits a room, a soffit hides ducts or pipes, and a new ceiling covers a failing one. We frame, hang and finish them, and check with LADBS whether your scope needs a permit.
Smooth, orange peel, knockdown and skip trowel each go on a different way. We practice on scrap board until the texture matches, then feather the repair into the wall around it.
A skim coat is a thin layer of compound over the whole wall that hides a web of plaster cracks. It keeps the original walls, trim and door casings in place.
Popcorn ceilings from before the 1980s can contain asbestos, so a sample gets lab-tested before anyone scrapes. If it’s positive, a licensed abatement contractor removes it; if it’s clear, we scrape, skim and finish the ceiling smooth.
Cracks after earthquakes
Most hairline cracks at door and window corners in LA homes come from small movement and are cosmetic. A few point to something bigger, and we check for those before we patch.
Warning signs we look for:
If we see any of these, we’ll tell you before we quote and suggest a foundation or structural check first. Patching over active movement only buys a few months.
For cosmetic cracks, we open a small V, bridge it with mesh tape and fill it with setting compound, which holds far better than a smear of caulk.

A patch shows when the texture’s off or the compound wasn’t primed, because bare mud soaks up paint differently. We prime every repair before the finish coat.
Most walls get a Level 4 finish under flat or eggshell paint. A Level 5 skim over the whole surface suits smooth walls in raking light or glossier paint.
Bath and laundry walls outside the shower take a moisture-resistant board. Shower walls get cement board or a membrane, which our bathroom pages cover.
We hang plastic, cover the floors and sand with vacuum-attached sanders, so the dust doesn’t travel through the house.
One visit finds the cause, sizes the repair and checks your texture. It’s free, and you don’t sign anything.
Questions
Short answers on cost, timing, permits, texture and water damage.
Call and you’ll talk to a project manager, not a call center.
It depends on the size of the damage, its cause, your texture and whether the area needs paint after. A single patch is a short visit, while water damage across a ceiling is a bigger job. Your written estimate lists each step after the free visit.
Most repairs take two or three short visits over 2–4 days, because each coat of compound has to dry before sanding. New walls and ceilings take about a week, start to finish, before paint.
Small repairs don’t. New walls, large replacements and work in fire-rated assemblies can, and so can any wiring or plumbing behind the board. We check with LADBS for your scope before we quote.
Yes. We match smooth, orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel and Santa Fe by testing on scrap board first. On an old painted wall, painting the whole wall hides the last trace of the edge.
Not if it stayed wet or sagged. Soft, swollen or stained board gets cut out once the leak’s fixed and the framing dries. Mold over a larger area goes to a remediation specialist before we rebuild.
Some do, especially ones sprayed on before the 1980s. A lab test of a sample is the only way to know, so we test before anyone scrapes and send positive results to a licensed abatement contractor.
Repair it when it’s mostly sound, and replace it when it’s loose over large areas. Repair keeps the original trim and the wall’s solid feel; new board is faster on badly failed walls.
Yes. Every repair gets primed, and our painters can finish the wall or the whole room so color and sheen match. If you’d rather paint yourself, we leave it primed and ready.
Yes. Sound insulation in the cavity and a second layer of board cut noise between a bedroom and a TV room. No wall stops every sound, but the difference is easy to hear.
